Awka North Declares Support for Ekwunife
As the race for
the Senatorial election draws nigh in Anambra State, the people of Awka North
Local Government Area of Anambra Central Senatorial District have thrown the full
weight of their support behind the candidature of Hon. Mrs. UcheEkwunife in the
February 14th elections.
Women Associations,
Youth Associations and other allied bodies turned out in amazing numbers to welcome
Hon. Ekwunife to their different wards and to register their statements of
support to the candidate for the forth-coming election.
Speaking at the Ward
Tours of the Local Government Area by the candidate, the Executive Chairman,
Awka North Local Government Council, Hon. Maduabuchi Mbaamakwu, said the people
of the area were very optimistic that Hon. Ekwunife will come out victorious in
the elections come February 14th. He pointed out that the people of
the area believe in the capacity and commitment of Hon. Ekwunife to deliver on their
interest, adding that her legacies as serving Member of the House of
Representatives were clear indications that she will do better if given a
higher platform to affect lives.
‘We are very
optimistic that Hon. Uche Ekwunife will carry the day come February 14th
and we are solidly behind her. She has done so well in the Lower Chambers and
has not disappointed her Constituency. So we are even privileged that such a
woman of outstanding impact is coming in to represent us in the Upper House.
Her abilities and capacities are not in doubt so we must support her because
she remains the best and most suitable for the job’, Mbaamaku noted.
Also speaking at
the event, the Chairman, Association for Comprehensive Empowerment of Nigerians
with Disabilities (ACEND), Mr. Emmanuel Okafor, said the Association was all
out to ensure victory for Hon. Ekwunife in the February election, pointing out
that she has done so much for them.
In her response,
Hon. Ekwunife expressed appreciation to the people for their amazing support
and promised to justify the confidence reposed in her when elected into the
Senate. She urged them to vote for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as well as
all the PDP Candidates in the State in the forth-coming elections and desist from
any act of violence during the period.
‘I urge you all
to come out with your PVCs and vote for PDP across board in February 14. By the
grace of God and the strength of your mandate, I shall be in the Senate and I
promise never to disappoint you. PDP remains the Party for the Igbos and we
must align ourselves to the transformation stream of President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan by ensuring that he is returned for a second term. But in all these,
we must desist from any act capable of triggering violence’, Ekwunife maintained.
